I attended when I was either in grade 5 or 6
with a long-time friend. I fondly remember the activities, canoeing and
archery...both of which I had never tried before. (A zipline was never
even heard of at that time.).
I remember the wooden bunk beds in the cabins. (I think they were
even still there the last time I visited a few years ago!) I remember
the gathering times in the big hall for stories, songs and games. I
think I still have my little Bible, and my tiny blue workbook and
pencil which I proudly showed my parents when I got home. I remember
weaving a cool plastic bracelet.
My absolute favourite activity which
brought me to the camp initially was the riding. I was a horse NUT. I
think I even had a schoolgirl crush on one of the older stable hands even
though he had no idea. Lol. I remember the great food and the
wonderful watered-down kool-aid.
I sadly don't remember who my camp
leader was, but she led me to Christ during a sleep-over in the big gym.
I remember her coaching, patiently answering my questions and then I
pulled my sleeping bag over my head and asked Jesus into my heart. My
leader had to remind me that my sleeping bag wasn't sound-proof and I
was speaking too loudly and involving everyone close-by in my moment
with God. Lol. But I'll never, ever forget that moment and am so
thankful to Birch Bay for my time there and showing me who God was. I
never received that at home and it was the last thing I had expected.
Anyhow, this was approx 36 or 37 years ago. Wow, can't believe that. My
two eldest daughters have since attended and they loved it. We're
looking forward to possibly sending our littlest to camp next summer.
Thank you Birch Bay for all the lives you've touched over the years with
your heart for children.
God Bless.
